Shirts are of light muslin due to the temperature of the Caribbean, affixed at the neck with a silk tie. When he is not wearing knee high *Cavalier boots (turned down at the top), he is adorned with white stockings, and cobbled shoes. * According to "The Romance of the Shoe", Cavaliers of the period 1630-40's wore broad toed boots, Puritans wore pointed toes, thus rendering footwear a sign of political affiliation.
Physical Description: Will (according to Jack Sparrow) bears a great resemblance to his father. Standing at an even six-foot, and weighing in at 185 lbs of lean muscle. He sports a neatly groomed mustache and goatee and somewhat rough hands due to the nature of his blue-collar vocation. He has shoulder length chestnut hair, intense dark brown eyes, and a proclivity for simple work clothes. He is as nimble and solidly framed as a man of his profession can be. Hard hours at the fire and anvil helped shaped his muscle mass, while his consistent three-hour swordplay practice worked to lengthen and taunt his frame to that of a lithe fencer.
Personality Description: Will is handsome, dashing, and generally stalwart and upright, though he tends to listen to his heart over the law. While somewhat mild-mannered, Will is fiercely loyal to those he cares about, and is willing to risk everything when they, namely Elizabeth, are in danger.
Strengths: At his best, he is heroic and courageous- an expert swordsman.
Weakness: At his worst, Will can be preoccupied and brooding.

Spoilers: Curse of the Black Pearl -
Will was raised almost exclusively by his mother while his father was out at sea as a "merchant sailor". His father sent him gifts once in a while, one of which, a gold medallion with the intricate pattern of a twisted skull in the center of the face. It was only after his mother's death, when he was twelve that he took a job as a cabin boy and sought to seek out his father overseas in the Caribbean. Unfortunately his ship came under attack and he, the sole survivor, was rescued by a passing ship housing Lieutenant James Norrington, Deckhand Joshamee Gibbs, the new Governor of Port Royal Weatherby Swann and his daughter Elizabeth. It was then while he was still unconscious, that he lost the pirate medallion his father sent him to him to Elizabeth.
After carving out a life for himself in Jamaica as a blacksmith's apprentice, William's boss, Mr. Brown was commissioned to make a sword for Norrington as he was newly appointed Commodore of the Royal fleet. Will who had been working in humble dedication that one day he will win over Elizabeth’s heart took on the task personally. It was during Norrington's ceremony that Elizabeth, was both rescued and threatened by the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow – who sought hiding and tools to release from his freshly clad irons in Mr. Turner's place of employ. It was only after the Jack's imprisonment, and the attack on Port Royal by pirates that William sought to break all of his previous notions regarding pirates. He worked in tandem with Sparrow to hunt down the Governor's kidnapped daughter because of his feelings toward her. During these adventures, William came to discover that his father was himself a pirate, that the medallion he'd been sent was a piece of cursed Aztec gold and that the feelings he had toward Elizabeth were in fact reciprocated.

Spoilers: Dead Man's Chest -
After assisting Sparrow from his execution at the gallows, William asked for Elizabeth's hand in marriage and took to the traditional year of courting – for the sake of propriety. Unfortunately before the pair could be wed, the ceremony was interrupted by Royal officials from the East India Trading Company, and both William and Elizabeth were imprisoned for their assisting in Sparrows escape. William was granted a temporary lift of sentence in agreement to seek out Sparrow and barter for his compass; (an enchanted item that was said to point to the thing its owner wanted most) and full pardon upon delivery to Lord Cutler Beckett.
His travels lead him to a cannibal inhabited island wherein he aid to rescue Jack and the majority of his crew. William explains the situation to Jack, who in turn tricks William into standing in his place aboard the Flying Dutchman. It's there that Will meets with his cursed father. William being a clever lad, manages to discover the location of a key Davy Jones has (to a box containing his heart) after playing a game of Liar's Dice. After swearing to free his father of the curse, he steals away with it to the island at which the chest is buried, but unfortunately he is not the only one. Both Jack Sparrow and the fallen from grace Norrington are there as well. An epic fencing match is played out for the chest and in the end (unbeknownst to Jack and Will) the heart is stolen by Norrington.
In their effort to escape Jones' dreaded Kraken, William devises a plan to fend off the creature, and though successful it was not a complete success. The crew opted to abandon ship and as they piled into the lifeboat, William foresaw his wife-to-be in a long and very impassioned kiss with Sparrow. Although the moment boded an inevitable wedge between them, Will was decidedly upset when Jack stayed aboard the Pearl and sealed his fate to the depths. During the sad, unorthodox funeral for Sparrow, William vowed to seek whatever means necessary to return Jack to life under the command of a previously thought demised Captain Barbossa.
