The light from the setting sun glinted off of the tall skyscrapers and the high gloss polish of the high end sports car as it navigated quickly but with meticulous precision though the steady flow of traffic. The eyes of the man behind the wheel caught a sliver of that light and as he glanced up toward the opening in traffic he smirked deviously and downshifted. The car slowed down as he saddled in behind a black SUV, and then just as quickly, took the opposing lane as he passed it though the yellow light. The man was none other than the self made billionaire Lex Luthor.
Music blared though the sound system, loud enough to near deafen the ears, but the drone of the engine was still the all the music he ever needed. The slick piece of machinery was one of a dozen from his personal collection, and yet he treated each one with scrupulous care. The phone snapped to the passenger-side visor lit up, the ringer inaudible over the blare of techno and power chords. He depressed a mute button on the music and took thej call. “Good evening Mr. Asbury, I was expecting your call over an hour ago. Were there any complications that should be made aware of?” “No, no Mr. Luthor, everything is going smoothly. We just had a minor delay when the Gibson server crashed.” “So you should have my prototype up and ready by tomorrow afternoon?” “Yes Sir, Simmons just got finished uploading the specs to your mail client. You can have a look yourself, the cohesion worked perfectly.” “Very good, I look forward to our AM appointment.”
With that he hung up and turned thought he wrought iron gates of his estate. The ground lights were already glowing, and the sun had set low enough to give the entire place an ominous feel. Walking to the front door, Lex depressed the intercom and made a voice verification to the guard at the security station. “Good evening Mr. Luthor. Welcome home.” “Thank you David.” The electronic lock sprang and he entered the massive foyer. As he moved, the ends of his long dark coat flowed out in a style reminiscent to that of a cape, and the clip-clop if his Italian made shoes echoed against the high cathedral ceilings. The building was an impressive site, but there were times when the cold stark emptiness got to him.
Once he changed out of the crisp white shirt and into something a little less professional, Lex entered his office. It was a largish room, like all of the rooms of the manor, but this one held a special air to it. Most of the things housed here described the billionaire’s personal tastes; From the single malt scotch to the purple felt pool table, the objects and their placement reflected a fine mix of business and pleasure. He poured himself a drink and sat down at his desk, looking over the leather-bound business planner. It described that he had a fencing appointment that evening, but it wasn’t for a few hours off. Leaning back in his chair, Lex sipped the amber liquor savoring the brief interlude.

Tall skyscraper's made of glass and steel reflected the sun as it began to set on the day. It was a far cry from the sunsets he had come to love in his hometown of Smallville, Kansas. Nonetheless, he had quickly begun to get used to the faster pace that was the norm in the big city. He enjoyed his job as a reporter for the Daily Planet especially since it had it's advantages placing him closer to the problems that plagued the city and the world for that matter. He worked with many personalities from the shy but enthusiastic photographer Jimmy Olsen to the demanding Editor in chief Perry White. Then there was his partner and fellow journalist Lois Lane. She didn't seem to care for the fact that they had been teamed together but he was sure that she would warm up to him eventually.
The man in blue and red had made his appearance only a week ago, a few days after he started at the Planet and had become the talk of the city, saving a few pedestrians from being mugged and stopping a bank robbery before the police chase could allow for anyone to be hurt but it was only after saving a bus load of school kids that he was finally caught on film and truly caught the attention of the city. Some called him an angel at first but it was only before Lois caught a glimpse of him that he was given the name Superman. She had expressed great interest in his alter-ego too bad himself and Superman were two seperate people. He knew that Lois would jump on the story if she knew that he and the man in blue and red were one in the same.
He brought his attention back to the computer screen that sat on his desk and placed his fingers back on his keyboard. Perry would have his head if he didn't finish his article before deadline but lucky for him his words per minute when typing wasn't an issue. He glanced around the office making sure that anyone that was lingering around doing last minute work wasn't watching and proceeded in breaking the typing world record finishing his article in under a minute. It wasn't a front page story but he was proud of it nonetheless. It was one of the things that his Ma and Pa taught him, to do your best and be proud of the result no matter how insignifigant it may seem. Ofcourse a third page article wasn't as reward as perhaps a days work on the farm but for him it was just as simple and the result was just as appreciated.
Once he looked it over pretending as though he needed to proofread it it was off to the printers before he would place it on Perry's desk.
"Here is the article on the food for the homeless drive, Perry." he said as he stepped into the office. "It's about time, Kent!." the man said as he looked over the print out then sat it down on his desk. Where is Lois with my cover story? he then said loud enough for anyone in shouting distance to hear. Clark shrugged as he hadn't seen her since in an hour or so. Shouldn't you know where your partner is, Kent... especially when she is holding up my paper." Clark nodded."Sorry, she left while I was finishing my article, I'm sure she is around finishing up."

“Lois I can’t believe you did that.” “Listen Jimmy, if you want to get the scoop you do what you need too. And if you want to be the best photographer you have to be where the story is.” The savvy reporter ran a hand into her short bobbed dark hair. Lois Lane was never one to miss a story, even if it was dangerous. It’s what made her the best. Writing for the Daily Planet had become part of her life. She loved it. The rush of crunch time, finishing The only foreseeable problem she had was one thing, Clark Kent. The native Kansas farm boy, just didn’t have that edge to him.
Black heals clicked against the ground as she walked over the tile covered ground of the offices. The dark haired woman could already hear Perry’s voice rising towards Clark. “Where’s Lois with my cover story? Shouldn’t you know where your partner is, Kent…especially when she is holding up my paper.” Jimmy stayed back a few feet, as Lois entered the office holding her copy. “You know Perry, you’re supposed to be watching you’re blood pressure. Yelling isn’t helpful.” Eyes lifted to look over the cigar smoking editor then up to the tall man. Their partnership was still a bit rocky. And she wasn’t about to share a by line with him. So while his good natured ‘Food drive’ piece made it to page three, her hard hitting exposes made top page. That was they way she liked it.
The sun was setting in Metropolis, all the buildings started to glitter. She loved this city, there was no place like in on earth. Of course traveling the Globe she’d been to plenty of interesting places. With her father in the military it only added to her travels, but Metropolis was always home. Gotham wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t as clean as pristine as the city that shone out the windows. “Well, boys, goodnight.” Lois flipped a hand through her hair and turned without much more. Perry White was used to it, most of the Daily Planet was. It was all part of Lois Lane. Saying good night to a few others she headed down stairs out into the streets.
Whistling she tried to flag down a cab. Two had already passed her by. “Hey come on!” Tearing down the streets were a pair of car-jackers in a stolen jeep, speeding in and out of going home traffic. When a sports car darted past them, the man behind the wheel swerved, jumping the curb with screams of pedestrians. Wood flying in shattered slivers as the front end of the vehicle crashed through a news stand just a block away from the Planet, and where Lois stood. Careening back into traffic there was the crunch of metal, as an opposing car dodged into a fire hydrant, and the jeep hit its back end. Lois turned as the red car went onto two wheels before tipping and heading her direction.

((“Lois I can’t believe you did that.” “Listen Jimmy, if you want to get the scoop you do what you need too. And if you want to be the best photographer you have to be where the story is.”))
He hears thier voices from a far as Perry contiues to voice his opinions about Clark not keeping tabs on his partner. Lois was ambitious especially when it came to the stories that she reported on, maybe too much so sometimes. She wanted to be the best at what she did and at times she didn't care about the trouble she put herself in to make sure she was. It was almost ironic that the two had been placed together maybe even fate ridden. He heard the cosisten tap of her high-heled shoes as she moved toward Perry's office and then her voice as she appeared behind them.
“You know Perry, you’re supposed to be watching you’re blood pressure. Yelling isn’t helpful.”
She sat her front page article on the man's desk and Perry picked it up browseing through it giving her a look as almost to say about time. The man had great pride in the paper and it showed in the late hours he put into his job as editor and chief.
“Well, boys, goodnight.”
Lois said as she turned to call it a day and head home. He turned to ask her a question but she had already made her way to the exit and he turned to Perry. "I think I'm gonna head out aswell, see you tommorow, Perry." The man at his desk waved still putting together the final look for the front page of the early edition of tommorow's paper. Clark made his way telling the remainder of the workers goodnight as he passed and moved to the elevator. Hopefully he could catch Lois before she got into a cab. That shouldn't pose too much of an issue since it was quite difficult to get a cab around this time as he had experienced himself on a few occaisions. The sounds of the city could be heard as he focused his ears on listening for Lois location.
((“Hey come on!”))
By her frustrated response obviously she was having trouble catching a cab. He continued through the lobby of the Planet when his hearing caught another sound. Screeching tires caused him to focus his eyes to the front entrance and then through it using his x-ray vision. A jeep, speeding in and out of traffic. Then a sports car darted past them, the car swerved, jumping the curb. The screams of terror and disbelief was all the motivation he needed to react. As his body accelerated far quicker than could be caught by the human eye it was almost as if time was standing still and he took full advantage as he raced opening his buttoned shirt to reveal the red and gold "S" that covered his chest. Finding a janitor's closet that he used to stash his work clothes he flew out of the entrance just as the security inside was leaning back to take a bite out of his evening sandwich. The gust of wind startled a few folks as they looked around bewildered as to what had just passed them. One car had run into a fire hydrant, and the jeep rammed into it from behind the force causing the car to tip over on two wheels heading for where Lois was standing waiting for her cab.
Just as the sports car could have possibly flattened the savvy reporter it was caught by to extended arms that gripped it tightly with fingers almost digging into the body. The driver seemed ok if not shaken and then the look of disbelief as his sports car was set down on two wheels to reveal his miracle was a man in blue tights with a long flowing cape. The crash had stunned the two carjackers but even after causing all the melee the driver still was trying to get his vehicle restarted. He looked over to them almost shaking his head as the two men considered bailing out of the jeep but the driver side door was jammed shut and as the passenger attempted to open his side the caped man moved over to the door and reached out grabbing the handle and with a twist the door seemed to be reshaped like putty and even with the man's hardest shoulder rams he couldn't get it to budge. "That should keep you two busy until the police get here." he said calmly as his ears had already picked up the oncoming sirens from a blocks away.

Savvy reporter gasped as the car came barreling her direction. Form backed up as orbs widened towards the sight. There was always something going on in Metropolis. Perhaps it was a good thing the city now had it’s very own guardian angel. A man she dubbed “Superman”. The man clad in blue and red with a bold shield S against his chest, and flowing red cape. The Man of Steel. Hands moved quickly holding down the pleats of her white skirt as the gust of wind picked up. Dark hair whipping against the stronger than normal breeze, which could be attributed to one thing, him. “I gotta start wearing pants.” She murmured to herself as the gust died down, and before the awe struck crowed stood Superman, in all his glory. Muscular form holding impending danger at bay, from her and those around her.
A light smile pulled at her lips. Tall, dark and handsome always seemed to appear in the nick of time. Lois couldn’t help but watch him. Since the first time she saw him. Not that she believed in “Love at first sight” or other silly ideas like that. Of course there was no denying there was something there. Maybe part of it was her reporter’s nature. Not even the Planet had been able to get the scoop. Try as she might to get his attention and exclusive. Like everyone else, Lois was left in the dark about the mysterious of their resident hero. Which was something she hated to be. Even when it came to men like Lex Luthor, Lois wanted to know anything she could.
Fingers worked through her dark tresses as Superman worked amid the gathered people. Rounding up the cause of the problem and making sure everyone was safe. Lois caught his glance and moved forwards along the sidewalk. “So what’s a girl got to do to get an interview. Fall off the edge of a building?” Light smile faded as she watched him rise into the air. Eyes following him, until he was out of sight. With a slightly frustrated sigh she turned. The one interview she wanted and she couldn’t get it. Orbs rolled as she looked over the traffic. Because of the accident, not even the cabs were moving, and it looked like she was walking. Form stopped as she noticed the statuesque man before her. Eyes traveled up the suit to the glasses wearing Kent. “Thought you were working late tonight, Smallville.”

“Very good Mr. Luthor,” complimented the young blonde woman in white fencing gear. Lex saluted her with his foil and then walked to the adjacent table to retrieve a towel and lay down his practice arms. He wiped sweat from his brow, glancing back to the woman. “Not so bad yourself Yvette. I apologize if things went a little over schedule this afternoon. I guess I had a lot more tension to work off than usual. “I should say so…” his instructor purred eyeing him up and down. Lex wasn’t in the mood, but he put on a face that said otherwise before “remembering” something. “Yvette, as much as I enjoy the extra credit, I have an appointment coming up in the next half hour so I’m afraid I’m going to cut this short. I’ll see you on Tuesday.”
Without coming off as overly cold, Lex dealt with the situation perfectly. The vivacious blonde left without having her feelings crushed and Mr. Luthor got to feel the superior; both at the sword and otherwise. He hadn’t been lying about the meeting, nor his need to wash off the stink of the workout. It didn’t take long for the first part. Afterward he was dressed in an off-black suit, the jacket left unbuttoned to reveal a lilac purple oxford. He’d neglected to don a tie and he’d left he top button of the shirt undone to give a more of an approachable appearance.
His eyes glanced over to the large grandfather clock that stood imposingly in the background, adjacent the bar and pool table. His appointment should be arriving soon. He’d arranged for a small table and chairs to be placed in an innocuous location by the fireplace, and he’d already selected a bottle of wine from the cellar that complimented the modest meal that had been prepared. If he was going to let Miss Lane have the exclusive on the hot story of the month, he wasn’t about to do it with anything but the utmost style.

“So what’s a girl got to do to get an interview. Fall off the edge of a building?”
He heard her but didn't respond and no sooner did the police pull up he lifted into the air and was out of sight just as quickly. It took him mere seconds to switch back into his suit, straighten his tie and place his glasses back on before Clark Kent slipped back into the awe struck crowd. He attempted to share thier gaze as he moved forward to Lois' location.
"What happened?" “Thought you were working late tonight, Smallville.” "I was heading out to get some fresh air when I noticed the crowd."
He eyed the scene as the police attempted to open the car doors by hand with no luck. Lois explained to him everything that had happened or what she knew of what had happened most of her words dealing with the man in the red cape that swooped down and saved the day once again. He nodded and thought that this would be a good idea for a story which in fact wasn't a bad idea seeing as how he was sure Perry would have wanted this news to make the late edition as well. Pulling out his pad he began to take notes.
"I hope you don't mind if I quote you, Lois. And no offense but if I didn't keep hearing people talking about a man in red and blue tights I'd still think you were seeing things."
He knew very well that the man was real but ignorance was the best way to keep his identity a secret. He couldn't help feel for the citizens of Metropolis though, Superman had made his appearance almost two weeks ago and no one knew anything about him. They were still in awe of him but how long before the wonderment turned into resentment. People fear what they dont understand. Perhaps it was time that he revealed himself to the world. Superman that is.
Once he was finished gathering enough information from various nearby bystanders he flipped the pad over and turned his attention back to his partner. "I'm glad you're okay, Lois. I should really get this typed up so Perry can get it in before the paper goes to print. This might be good enough to make the front page." With a wave he turned and made his way back to the Planet door. "See you tommorow, Lois."

If normal men were a mystery, then Superman was an enigma. More than just a man, a start of something greater, a symbol of hope, truth, justice. In her mind reporter was putting the puzzle pieces together. What ones she had. With her mind asking questions she nearly forgot about the tall man beside her, asking questions of his own. Lashes closed over her eyes as she turned looking back up towards him, subconsciously she must have been answered, though she didn't recall the words she'd said.
"...talking about a man in red and blue tights I'd still think you were seeing things." "I'm the most sane person I know, Kent." Brows arched as the statement pulled from her lips, watching the Metropolis transplant move about the crowed trying to get other statements about the events that happened, while police were working on taking the car jackers into custody. Fingers moved through her dark tresses until she head Clark's voice next to her once more. The almost naive man was holding up his small pad of paper commenting about trying to make it to first page. Orbs rolled as he turned to make his way to the door with a final goodbye.
Catching the arm of his jacket she stopped the tall man and looked him over with an arch in her brow. "Smallville, a foiled car-jacking isn't front page new. Maybe in Kansas but not here in Metropolis. Even if the Man of Steele was involved. Unless there were some secret to it, or like multi-hundred dollar items stolen, it's just another daily event." Fingers were still closed against his arm just above his elbow as she moved to circle around him. Dark head shaking slightly. Lois had always been a one woman show. When Perry partnered her up with Clark it wasn't in the least what she was expecting, nor what she'd wanted. Breath huffed slightly. "Come on, I'll show you front page news, I've got a dinner appointment to meet with Lex Luthor. Just don't expect to have a shared by line yet." Finally releasing Kent she moved back towards the curb, whistling for another taxi. Softly muttering under her breath about being late because of not getting a cab.

Until he arrived in the newsroom Lois had always been a single entity within the Daily Planet. She was the star reporter and everyone followed her lead. With Jimmy being her photographer Clark could very well feel like a third wheel and at times she did give off the indication that she wasn't too pleased with thier pairing. He moved among the crowd getting statements from various pedestrians that he knew had been close enough to give him a legitimate quote until Lois grabbed him by the arm and pulled him away.
"Smallville, a foiled car-jacking isn't front page new. Maybe in Kansas but not here in Metropolis. Even if the Man of Steel was involved. Unless there were some secret to it, or like multi-hundred dollar items stolen, it's just another daily event."
He nodded as he eyed the police attacking the car with the jaws of life. "You're probably right, Lois." This was far from the small town of Smallville and she was right as he had encountered similar situations to this one on a daily basis ever since he arrived in Metropolis. Luckily the police seemed to be equipped to handle things most of the time. Having to keep up with every single situation would be a bit taxing even for him. Not that he would tire but he couldn't help everyone and that was difficult to accept especially for him. He wasn't like everyone else he was special as his Ma always told him and because of this he was expected to do a lot of good in the world. The problem was that he was one man, even if he was super.
"Come on, I'll show you front page news, I've got a dinner appointment to meet with Lex Luthor. Just don't expect to have a shared by line yet."
You had to be from another planet not to know who Lex Luthor was, no pun intended. His influence had even reached into Smallville on occaision but not on the level that was seen in Metropolis. The goverment ran the city but it seemed as though the multibillionaire surely owned it. Everything from the buildings around them to the cars driven by the Metropolis police seemed to be affiliated in some way with his company LexCorp. Although it was from his knowledge and research that the man dealt mainly with the military, his company creating technology to help move the world into the future. The man came across as a visionary but most visionaries were'nt to be trusted, they always held a personal if not secret agenda.
"Sure Lois but I wouldn't want to intrude on your date." She whistled for a cab and watched as a few bypassed them either not hearing her or attempting to stay out of the way of the crime scene. Her mutters weren't inaudible to him but it wasn't something that he would run home to tell his Ma about. Taking a small breath placed his fingers to his lips blowing as a the sound of a loud whistle flowed from his mouth startling a cab driver who immediately stopped in front of her. He was looking forward to meeting Mr. Luthor he had heard and read so many interesting things about him and wondered how many were true and which ones were mere myth and opinion.
