“He’s… He’s not hiding anything!” She yelled across the room before the small group upon the Serenity heard something over the loudspeaker.
“Hold on tight back there.” Came Wash from the speaker. Luckily she was sitting already and she held herself tight. Simon came to her quickly just as the landing began.
“What-what’s going on Simon?” she whispered before curling into his embrace. However, the protective hold of her brother ended quickly as he flew across and away from her from the harsh bumpiness of the entrance to the place below. However, as the landing finally ended, Simon looked up with a fresh cut and the red liquid streaming from it upon his forehead.
“Everyone ok? Any broken parts?” Simon yelled into the bay which he laid himself. Everyone groaned and moaned as they stood. Wash repeated the same sentiments in a shorter term only for them to gain the same response from their captain.
“Oh yeah…” Mal groaned, “We’re just fine!” Both Simon and River gained a rough look from Mal as he passed and gave orders to everyone else on the crew. Just as Simon went to look for River, his eyes widened.
“River! Rutting hell! Where are you?”
She had taken off and down the hatch. She wasn’t liking the animosity at the present moment of time. Curling up in the cargo bay she would sit for a few moments before she heard her brother calling her name, “River!” but she wouldn’t be there for him to find her.
“A beautiful blonde will betray us all.” She whispered before climbing down the landing gear and out onto the land. The dock wasn’t far from here-she would try to get something and make it all better. Try to make everything all better-however she wouldn’t know now that she would bring upon the ship someone who could make it all better for them.
Running through the thick golden field, her bare feet touched the soil lightly with each step. She wouldn’t be there for long, that’s for sure. She could see Simon freaking out now-freaking full out. “Simon needs happiness.” That’s when she saw the woman running with something… and running into a shop. “Simon needs…” she whispered to herself.
She slowed as she neared the shop which the pretty blonde entered. She would bring her back to the ship… she would bring her as a playtoy for Simon-everyone needed someone. Smiling slightly she eyed the girl who was just a bit older than herself. “Come with me…” she whispered towards the blonde, however her eyes opened, “Come or else your secret will be taken.” With that River turned and walked out of the shop which the girl was found by her.

"Yes my precious you are safe with me...muah" came a sudden voice of Starling as her eyes focused hard on her pretty secret area. Her fingers tapped together one after the other and to a stranger she would look like a mad scientist ready to bring her creation to light. The dim flicking of the lights in the lab, the eerie colour of greens and blues and the odd expression on her face said it all. Not to mention the hunched over slightly position of her body. "Now just a touch of this.." she moved to a different vile, took a small bit of the liquid and brought it to an old pot splashed over the table on a burner. She added it to the substance and in a puff of white fog she began to cackle gently. "You are compleettee!!"
She laughed gently and stood fully, her arms spread out in an even madder manner. But she was interrupted by the sudden appearence of a stranger. "Oh.." she said a bit startled as the lights flickered back on to a solidly lit area. Back to normal she went. " Why Hello there. How about a nice cup of this special blend I just made? It's warm velvety and melts on your tongue like a beautiful display of dancing chocolate swans..Soothes the soul you see.." she beamed and finally tried her creation and with a sudden gulp she made a face. " Its missing the velvet..ahh well. How about I interest you in a fine assortment of mud clumps and rocks from Haggins Moon? You know..people often overlook the importance of these fine little clumps." she took a dark red one from the litle basket she kept them in and began to look it over as she moved slowly towards t girl. " I mean...they aren't just mud clumps....if you add them to a refined amount of hydrogen oxide it can act as a great adhesive. See thanks to the amount of clay they find it works wonders and is alot cheaper too..Or how about.." she placed the mud clump back and was about to show her something else when the girl spook so eerily to her.
So much that Starling stood and just blinked silently at the girl. She was out of words. The only time she really reacted was when the girl spoke of her little secret and with a nervous laugh and a standing in front of where she put it she shook her head innocently. "I really don't know what you mean by that...Kid.." she beamed a bit more, ok so she was a bad liar. Sue her then? With a quick glance around the place she wondered a bit. Hey, sometimes you have to abandon what your doing for the betterment of it all right? So those people who were after her, yeah. Wanting to take what she has made, and wanting to throw her away like everywhere else did. Yeah, they weren't going to have any luck this time. Suddenly she began to scramble, picking up anything she could that had the most importance to her, especially her secret. Stuffing them all nicely away into a bag, she followed the girl out. But not without her large over coat first. Whereever the girl meant he had to be better than this right? And hell she could get some money for some of this stuff she was sure. " So uh...Hey where are you taking me anyways?" She continued to watch around as she followed, hoping they didn't spot her escape to the unknown.

Suddenly the girl began to fidget and clamor around. Why did everyone always have to have large bags with them. River didn’t understand-after all, when rescued, she only brought herself. Well then again, she was crazy when found… and still is. River eyed the girl until she put on the large over coat. Eyes turned back towards the door and she nodded before looking out. “We can go…” she whispered softly towards the stranger before they set off together.
“An where do you think you are takin our prize thur Starlin?” River turned, even though that wasn’t directed towards her, and frowned. Shaking her head she walked backwards and dragged this Starling with her.
“No, just walk… we will be fine.” She whispered softly before turning around and forcing Starling forward. However, this jerk of a man wasn’t happy with that and ran after the two. River’s hand grabbed Starling’s forcefully and wouldn’t let the girl run. However, after a moment she let go, and turned, grasping the man by the same hand that had once held Starling’s arm and flipped him over her back.
The man grunted as he landed roughly on the ground, her blank dark eyes stared at him before cocking her head to the right. “Stay here…” she told him before letting go and standing back up. However, the cocking of the gun caused her to turn and fall down quickly, just barely missing the gunshot. “I said stay.” She quipped before cocking her head the other way and grasping the barrel of the gun with one hand, and sending her palm into the mans wrist the opposite way-causing him to instantly drop the gun. “Listen.” She whispered before standing and shooting the man dead on.
Turning she eyed Starling who seemed to stand in shock at the younger girls movements and actions. “Come….” She said softly before grasping Starling again and pulling her towards the ship. In the background, however, a gun salute was going off from the man’s compadres who found him dead. “Not good… they’ll find our trail soon…” she commented before blinking and stopping. How did she know all this?
Shaking the thought away she started again and entered the viscidity of the Serenity. Go figure within ten minutes she would be back and the captain still arguing with the man in the front. Either way she boarded once more the same way she exited and helped the girl onto the ship as well.

Starling kept close behind this girl, she wasn't about to let her out of her sights. Afterall, if she was a way to get off this dung heap of a planet where she got herself in way to much trouble as it was, then that was fine by her. She couldn't help but smirk a bit more at the girl. This girl was indeed strange but hell didn't they back home think that she herself was off the rocket? Well, who's laughing now right? Probably them but still.
They were on their way and they were heading towards well, Starling still didn't know. Hopefully she would find out soon. But soon came at a price. A voice rang out towards Starling, a voice she knew all to well. It caused her to stop dead in her tracks and swing herself around. More nervous laughs and a chance to try and get out of this mess. " Oh I was well..see this here girl was helping me put the finishing touches on the beaut. She is a beauty trust me, he's gonna be super pleased when he gets her, but you gotta understand that this here needs more time. " "Times run out..pay up."c ame another voice and shaking her head, a grip suddenly grabbed her and this girl was forcing her to keep moving. But the guy was following and well, as much as Starling was trying to plot an escape root, the girl had pounced.
Starling stood back, eyes wide in shock as the girl handed a can of sulphuric acid on these guys. Starling was well, shocked more than she ever was in all her life. Even though this was smaller she could move. When a gun flew at Starlings feet, she beant down and picked it up. Instead of using it though, she fiddled a bit and the gun would never work again. Well unless you got it good a fixed. She hated fights, hated guns, hated all that angry stuff. Throwing it away before the girl suddenly grabbed her again. She moved with a bit of a shocked look still and was utterly amazed. She spoke as they moved.
"Wow, that was amazing Kid, how'd you do that!? Huh...talk about crazy.." she laughed a bit and followed her into the ship in an odd way. She even tried to continue to talk to the girl. "My names Starling by the way. What's yours huh?"

“I… I don’t know how I did that.” She blinked a few times before she eyed the woman who introduced herself as Starling. “Starling… I’m River.” She nodded before hearing her name being called again by her brother.
“Rutting hell River… where did you go? River!” Simon yelled, it was obvious his voice was getting rough and horse… but he wanted to know his sister was ok.
“That’s Simon… he’s looking for me.” She nodded slightly before smiling, which was rare indeed. “Simon is my brother… he found me broken… he’s been sad since then…. He helps me… gives me medication… he helps me.” Nodding some she eyed the bag.
“What’s in there… is that your secret?” she wondered softly almost too soft for Starling to hear, but the question was heard. She moved quickly and looked towards her bag. “You need to meet my brother… you have interesting toys in there… lets go see him.” They weren’t yet onto the ship… but she could only sigh.
She stood, “Come on Starling… meet Simon.” She nodded towards the door, which the three people were standing by. “Come to the ship… come on.”

The dark-skinned warrior was tossed to and fro with the loss of gravity and then the sudden dive into Persephone’s atmosphere. But she made out better than the rest of the crew, as she was close to the island counter and made a quick grab for stability, her arm linking with the Preacher’s forearm. After Serenity came to a standstill she nodded at Mal’s order, exiting the mess hall and following the stairs and passageways to the cargo bay. The bay was unfathomably messy. Crates lay open, their contents strewn about the corrugated floor.
Immediately the trio began to heft things about, trying to get some sense of semblance to the room. With the help of Jayne and Shepherd Book it wasn’t long before the bay began to look more or less the way it had before the incident. Just as Kaylee came down into the room with Wash she palmed the back hatch open, looking to her beloved. “Jun ta ma yao ming. Joo-ee” [This is pretty damned dangerous. Pay attention]
Her stark features expressed the seriousness of her words, and what it could mean if this mission went awry. She continued to work, sweeping up a few bits of broken glass that had once housed minerals from their previous score on the Ita moon. It wasn’t long before Malcolm was ready for them to depart, and just before they went off Serenity, she donned her Kevlar vest and strapped her long barrel to her leg. She assumed Jayne suited up as well. “I’m all set Sir”

Post by H. "Wash" Washburn on Mar 27, 2006 18:23:48 GMT -5
Wash was tromping down the stairs when he met Mal half way down them, noticing the look in the captain’s eyes. Things were already not going as planned. “At least your cynicism is still intact.” Both men moved to head down the stairs since they were on solid ground, his shoulder shrugged slightly. “Sorry. I figured I should get into where there was gravity before you all went floating away. And made a bigger mess.” He’d just come down when Kaylee entered the room looking a bit glum, and his elbow nudged Malcolm, while head bobbed her direction.
Wash was always a good natured type of person, and he loved this crew like part of his own family. Because as dysfunctional as they were, they were family. On this boat at least. Closing the gap between himself and Kaylee he placed a hand on her shoulder. “It’s alright Kaylee, let’s go see if we can find us a replacement, and some fuel.” “Okay.” Then he headed off towards the cargo hold with the girl after looking back once more to the captain. Once out in the bay he saw the mess his rough flying had caused that his wife, Jayne and Book were working on cleaning up. He came up to a stop by Zoe and kissed her forehead. “Jun ta ma yao ming. Joo-ee” “Liu shen, xin ai qi zi” (Be mindful beloved wife) He responded back lowly to her words and look. His hand took her’s squeezing it gentley to show he understood and looked up as River went running out. “What’s with her?”
Shrugging once more Wash and Kaylee left the ship and started their journey to find replacement parts and fuel. The first two no luck. The next ones weren’t as bad, save for the cost. “Shen a hun dan.(What a bastard) 500 credits for a used grav-stablizer. A new one cost that.” He sighed as they moved on to the next shop without much luck. He was soon beginning to realize the situation they were getting into. The young mechanic looked bummed and he tried to cheer her up with a joke but it flopped. “Wash what are we going to do? I don’t think were going to find a grav-stabilizer that will fit our budget” “Well…Uh…” Wash looked to the voice who’d cut him off talking to himself and Kaylee and frowned slightly. He snorted some to the nickname he was given as the man leaned showing them into the yard. Sometimes he didn’t trust the people in Eavesdown Docks. He looked behind him as Kaylee started to rummage though things, seeing River dragging a girl behind her. “I’ll be right back.”
Wash half jogged to catch up to River and the woman she was with, his eyes looked over the woman then up towards the 17yearold. “River, just what are you doing. Dragging this poor woman along? Sorry about that, our little River here can be impulsive. ” He turned to look at the woman, and noticed she had belongings with her. Just what was being played at here? Fingers scratched into his strawberry blonde hair as he tried to figure things out. Mal, Zoe and Jayne were already on their way and his brows arched up when Mal pointed at him. “Deal with that.” “Me?! But, I don’t know…Maybe Zoe could.” But the trio were already taking off and Wash got a sheepish look on his face looking at the pair, from River to the girl than back. He had a feeling he'd need some reinforcements. “Uh.. Simon!”

First thing she saw was Wash running to her. Wash was nice, silly-he liked to play with things. He was interesting to her. Her head cocked though as he began to talk.
“River, just what are you doing. Dragging this poor woman along? Sorry about that, our little River here can be impulsive. ” Eyes blinked before she shook her head.
“She needs to stay with us…” that’s all she would say about this before she looked to Starling. “Her name is Starling… She’s pretty right Wash? Where’s Simon?” Her eyes swung back in his direction and her face held this odd childish innocence.
Wash let his hands go to his hair, he looked as if he was going to pull it out. “Uh.. Simon!” He yelled back into the ship as River passed him on her way back in and still dragging this girl along with her. She wouldn’t care what anyone had to say, Simon must meet this Starling.
Eyeing the area, her eyes turned to Starling. “They will see the importance of you being here very soon… but not yet. They will question, but will not know till later.” Nodding to herself she turned again. “A ge!” (ElderBrother) she yelled softly for simon.

Why if her day could get anymore interesting, she'd be on a dream away from dreams right now. I mean, a strange girl walks into your shop, you think nothing of it, she takes you away and you watch her beat up on some guys who have been looking for ya for a while...what else could fall under the title of odd? Especially the fact she talks so cryptic its like she knows stuff you don't yet. Yeah, Odd indeed.
Something about this girl intrigued Starling a bit, and the fact that she could kick butt without questions or thought made Starling feel a bit more safe. At least while she was on the girls side of it all anyways. The girl seemed nice enough though which meant she wouldn't be on any other side but that. Indeed.
Suddenly beyond it all, a strawberry haired man came up to them. Speaking apologizes for who she assumed was River. They seemed to know eachother. " Oh it wasn't a bother really. Shes a nice girl it seems." Starling gave a true to heart smile and watched But that was before a bunch of others came prouncing about. Ok so this group was interesting indeed and whoever this Simon was it seemed they really wanted him here. He must be important..or well at least to one of them right?
She kept her eyes on the man that River called Wash. " Uh yeah...Starling Angelli.." her hand lifted and when the girl spoke of how she was pretty, she couldn't help the burning feeling in her cheeks. Causing a nervous chuckle to escape her lips and her eyes to divert a bit shocked looking towards River. " I wouldn't say pretty...more like average.." yeah so Starling didn't care about her looks as much and maybe some people noticed? If she had them at all that was.
Then again River spoke up so cryptic it caused a brow to raise at her words. They'd understand her importance? What was that? She wasn't much help at all when it came down to things, she didn't clean, she didn't fly, she didn't like fighting at all..well she did know how to cook pretty well and help with other things but that wasn't all that important....Giving a quizzical look towards the gentleman as River looked away she spoke. " She always talks like that?..." when he answered and she reacted she figured that they were on the surface here looking for something right? "So what are a group like you looking for anyways? Anything special I could help you find...maybe I have something that could help eh?"

Post by Malcolm Reynolds on Mar 27, 2006 18:25:49 GMT -5
Heavy boots clunked down to the bay, as Captain Reynolds started to gather up his team for the meeting with Badger. He was happily surprised at the efficiency of his crew in cleaning up the bay, knowing that the rest of the ship was in desperate need as well, but that this wasn’t the time. Tossing mismanaged locks of honey tinged brown from his eyes his gaze settled on his right-hand woman. “Impressive job, couldn’t have done it better myself. Loaded for bear?” “Damn straight Sir,” she patted her sidearm for effect. Malcolm knew he didn’t have to ask Jayne. It was hard to not have him bring a sidearm on surface.
Just as they were walking down the gangplank, River ran past, dragging a mysterious woman by the wrist. His eyes widened incredulously. This was unbelievable. The last thing he said was that the Tams were not to leave Serenity and now here she was not only directly disobeying that order, but she was bringing passengers on board?! He looked to the sky, reading the time from the position of the sun. This was not a hang-up he had spare to deal with. As the pair neared the rear stairwell he whistled for Wash’s attention, pointing in the direction of the girls. “I don’t know what in the ‘verse that girl is up to but you deal with that. Right quick”
As they walked, Jayne and Zoë tried to make small talk, wanting to get Mal in a better mood for the round of ass-kissin he was going to have to do. Going into Badger’s office with an attitude never made things fly their way. It was hard, but before they entered the building, Malcolm had suppressed his rage enough to put up his business-like charm. “Well, well, well, and what do I owe for havin’ the likes of Capt’n Reynolds in my presence?” Badger leaned back in his chair, tipping his bowler hat up to look over the trio. “I must say that after the last dealings we had you were what you might call a bit of a soil on my reputation round here.” Jayne’s hand hovered over his weapon until Mal shot him a look. Zoe just stared Badger down, her eyes like daggers. “If you’re referring to the event we had with that stuffed shirt Atherton, I heard the effects were quite the reverse… least that’s what Sir Warwick Harrow mentioned in his last WAVE.” Badger wasn’t shunted by the truth, but he quickly diverted topics, asking the real meat of things. “Well, if you’re ‘ere lookin’ fer work I can’t ‘elp ya. “ “Not looking… offering.”
Mal tossed down the sheet, “if you’re willing to make us a facsimile of this, I can offer you thirty percent of the profits straight off the top, once we make the trade with our client.” Badger rubbed his chin, sizing the piece over, his beady little eyes scanning the specs. “How soon will you be needing this shiny replica?” “Before sundown.” “Forty.” “Thirty five.” “Done.” The men shook hands on the deal, Mal stepping back a few paces. “You have three hours,” Mal warned before exiting the building. Zoë, looked over toward him, echoing his words, “Impressive job, couldn’t have done it better myself.”

Post by H. "Wash" Washburn on Mar 27, 2006 18:26:53 GMT -5
Brows arched once again towards the antics of River. He knew the girl did things most of them didn’t understand. Like putting soup in her hair. Of course Wash always found that amusing. But this, he wasn’t quite ready for. He could hear Mal’s voice in the back of his mind. ‘You wanted to learn what Zoe’s job was like. Well start learnin.’ So silently he tried to tell himself he could do this, he could handle this. Of course he tried to think of things Mal would say or do. Even Zoe. His head tipped as River spoke. “Stay with us? What…no,no,no. Mal’ll kill me.”
Wash put his hands up in protest. He could see this going over badly, very badly. But River just kept on going. Her talk wasn’t quite as lucid as it usually was but it was still broken. “Nice to meet you. Hoban Washburn, most call me Wash. Yes very pretty, in a strictly married man commenting out of politeness fashion. Simon. I don’t know.” It appeared that River wasn’t going to care what anyone had to say about this. And for some reason she wanted her brother. Then River whispered something to the woman. Wash shifted his weight looking into the cargo bay that River was starting to get into. Finally her older brother came into view and he gave a sigh of relief.
“What’s going on here? River?” Simon moved forwards to his sister checking her over placing his hands on her shoulders, looking straight into the face of the young girl. “River, how am I supposed to protect you if you run away from me.” Then he seemed to notice the woman with his sister and bowed his head some standing back up, looking over to Wash then back. “Thank you for finding my sister…” “Uh, Simon I think it’s quite a bit the other way around.” Wash’s head nodded towards Simon and his bewildered look. Maybe thinking the same thing. Why would River go running out of the ship, find a young woman and bring her back. It was all a bit off.
Wash looked around once again and then looked back towards Starling as she spoke towards him about River. He thumbed her direction. “Who River? Yeah. But, usually it’s a bit more, ‘my God, my God were all going to die’ types and gross-ified phrases. Or you know just smears soup into her hair. But the broken sentences, it’s normal.” Simon stepped up towards Wash and Starling. “The Alliance was experimenting on her when I broke her out. She wasn’t always this way. They did things to her. River is special.” “Still that’s beside the point. River just can’t bring people to live on this boat. It was hard enough taking you two on. We hardly have enough for all of us in the first place.” Wash huffed in frustration, trying to talk to Simon when River was involved never went over well. And now this poor girl was caught in the mix.

Post by Kaylee Frye on Mar 27, 2006 18:27:24 GMT -5
Kaylee’s eyes looked up towards the man who was now speaking towards them. The sort of rugged look, the smile. Kaylee was hooked in a fashion. She watched him for a moment as he whipped his hands and pushed back long hair then moved so they could look through the yard. “Cheap. Sound like our kind of budget. Don’t you think Wash.” “I’ll be right back.” Kaylee turned to watch the pilot of the Serenity take off the direction of the ship, seeing what he’d seen, River and some strange girl being dragged along. Boy, this day really wasn’t going as planned at all. Eyes rolled as she looked back to Fox and the yard. “Got any Firefly parts?”
Kaylee followed him to a back section of the yard and started looking through parks, occasionally stopping for to inspect a part or ooh and aww at the treasure she’d found. Getting some things set aside she turned and looked back over her shoulder. And her eyes widened slightly and she moved quickly, nearly tripping herself in the process and dropping the compressors she held in her hand. “Oh my goodness…” Setting the items down she moved half shoving Fox out of the way from where he was leaning. Hand shoved against his hip until he was cleared of the metal. Kaylee moved some of the scrap blocking what’s she’d been so focused to uncover. There under a few solar panels was as grav-stablizer. “Well ain’t you just like a little kid in a candy store.” “How much?” “What?”
Kaylee pointed at the part she wanted, looking straight at the man and she asked again, and he moved forwards. Whispering into her ear. Kaylee’s heart raced for a moment with him so close, feeling the stubble of his chin brushing against her cheek. “What, oh I don’t know if I can do that.” “That’s the offer Puddin’ cup.” She bit her bottom lip for a moment and looked back towards the ship. They could really use it, but what he’d said. Could they accept something like that. She saw the trio walking back and placed a hand on Fox’s chest, pushing his leaning form away some. “Stay there…” The young mechanic was moving quickly through the yard and out onto the crowded streets heading straight towards Mal. From the look in his eyes he wasn’t happy with what ever was going on with Wash and Simon. “Captain, Captain, I found it… I found a grav-stablizer. But um, there’s one little hitch.”
When she could tell Mal had looked at her, as well as Wash, him knowing the luck they’d been having, Kaylee grabbed Mal’s hand. “I think you better come with me yourself. Because of the deal.” She didn’t give him any time to refuse as she dragged him off towards the yard where she’d found the part and stopped looking towards Fox, then pointed towards him and the stablizer. “Thing is Captain. That’s the deal.” “Kaylee! You can’t trade a human being.” “I’m not talking about that, silly. It’s not like you getting paid with a woman. He’ll give us the stabilizer. We’ll I guess it isn’t really that simple. He’ll give it to us if we take him on.”

Fox shifted his weight watching the pair. Most of the time he rubbed people the wrong way. Even if he wasn’t one of the bad guys, it took people sometime to get use to him, to the attitude. The nicknames. The whole essence that was Fox Tucker. Brows quirked a moment while he waited, trying to be open towards them in his own smug way. The pilot didn’t enter the yard and headed back towards the Serenity to take care of what ever it was that was starting to go down. Now his full attentions were turned towards Kaylee. Fox knew the best was of getting on this ship was persuading the women folk of it. As well as an offer almost too good to give up. If Malcolm Reynolds was the kind of man Fox figured, it would have to be a really good deal. He’d need to sweeten the pot.
“Firefly parts. Course, think there’s some over this way.” His weight shifted as he moved though the yard. Glad he’d taken the time to get familiar with it. Bait the trap well. Hand ran through straw hair as he watched her get to work sorting through the junk and usable pieces. Eyes rolled a moment. Finishing the cigarette he leaned against a few pieces of metal flicking the butt to the ground, smothering it with the heel of his boot. “You find anythin’ doll, you let me know.” She’d turned and looked at him. The girl was cute in her own way. Then he wasn’t quite sure how to react when she moved towards him with excitement in her bright eyes. “Hey watch it!” moving arms flailed out to stable himself from the casual cross ankled leaned stance he’d hand until the mechanic for the Serenity shoved him out of the way. Turning around Tuck watched the girl digging up the item she wanted so badly and realization hit him. As his mind replayed the earlier comments he over heard. The grav-stabilize. He had to admier her determination. “Well ain’t you just like a kid in a candy store.” “How much?” “What”
Of course he knew exactly what she wanted, what she was after. A smirk pulled against his lips and he moved leaning forwards close, inches away from her. Lips parted as his raspy accented whisper came from his throat in her ear. “ How ‘bout this. See here I want off this rock. Take my business sky high. Near out of finances as it were. Ain’t nothin’ left for me here. You get me on the crew on the ship at least, I’ll give you the part. Free an’ clear.” He waited a moment staying close to her. Sensing her tense from both his being close and the offer. “What, oh I don’t know if I can do that.” “That’s the deal Puddin’ cup.” Fox hadn’t shifted an inch, and it took her hand on his chest to push his leaned form back up and she instructed him to stay. “Think we both know I ain’t going no where.”
He took a moment to look around the yard, some of the parts Kaylee had set aside. And he’d checked the fuel tanks, there was enough left in them to fill the tanks of a ship the size of the Serenity plus a few spare small cells. Of course the condition the ship was looking, they could use more than just the stabilizer. Everything in this yard had now become leverage against Reynolds. He was going to get on that boat, one way or another. A few moments later, Kaylee had come back with Malcolm in tow. And explained partially the deal.
Fox moved forwards looking towards Mal. A few strands of sandy hair fell against his forehead and smoky gray eyes as he stopped a few feet away. “I think we can work somethin’ out here, Chief. I got somethin’ ya’ll want. You got somethin’ I want simple as cake.” “I ain’t talking to you.” He watched Mal for a moment before looking back towards Kaylee with slightly raised brows. His jaw clenched a moment as a finger rubbed against stubbled sideburns. “Listen, here, I’m tryin’ to be business like. Hows ‘bout I sweeten the deal. I can help fix things up. Don’t take up much room.” “We already got ourselves a mechanic, in Kaylee here.” “Actually Mal, I could use the help.” "We'll find you someone. Not, him." "But..." "No gorram way. I'm not letting some guy I don't know from jack on my boat. That's it Kaylee." "What you want to just pay for it?" "Sounds good to me. How much." He saw the look of frustration on the captains face and huffed slightly. The long bangs blown up only to fall back down. “You two done with your lovers banter? All right, fine. You get me off this rock, you can tap my tanks. Hell, I’ll even let your little doll face here, rummage to her hearts content my yard. Business sucks anyway. You ain’t gonna get a better offer than that.” Fox took on a deadpanned expression as he waited for Mal’s response.

She smirked as her brother came towards them, "A ge!" she smiled before she pulled him closer to the group. "A ge, this is Starling... beautiful beautiful..." She felt her brothers embrace grow tight before he pulled back and placed his hands on her shoulders. "River, how am I supposed to protect you if you run away from me?" he questioned innocently.
Her gaze covered her brother's form as she just smiled, he turned towards Starling. “Thank you for finding my sister…”
“Uh, Simon I think it’s quite a bit the other way around.” Wash chirped in and shrugged as well.
"Starling must stay... she needs to. The answer will come later." She nodded some. Ever since a few things happened after she told them all cryptic-like... well Mal hasn't been too happy about it but he seemed to be willing to go along with most things, however... this was a BIG thing.
"Is she always like this?" River heard Starling question before two answers were given.
"“Who River? Yeah. But, usually it’s a bit more, ‘my God, my God were all going to die’ types and gross-ified phrases. Or you know just smears soup into her hair. But the broken sentences, it’s normal.” Simon shot Wash a look before answering the question himself.
"The Alliance was experimenting on her when I broke her out. She wasn’t always this way. They did things to her. River is special.” River nodded slightly at her brothers answer, though truthfully she didn't understand what he meant by that but nodded anyway.
Then it hit her, it took her a while sometimes... tears whelled in the young sister's eyes. "Ta di zao ben ren po." (He found me broken.) With that she turned and sniffled a bit. The once overly intelligent and sweet sister, was now at the social/mental level of a ten year old.
"She needs to stay... it will all be answered... later."

Voices caught Malcolm’s attention sending his nerves on red alert. “The Alliance was experimenting on her when I broke her out. She wasn’t always this way. They did things to her. River is special.” “Still that’s beside the point. River just can’t bring people to live on this boat. It was hard enough taking you two on. We hardly have enough for all of us in the first place.” He crossed the cargo bay and without hesitating he pushed Wash aside, was balled his fist, and hauled off punching Simon square in the mouth. He didn’t offer an excuse for the behavior, just continued walking dragging Wash with him. As he lectured, his voice was kept low, not loud enough for the stranger to hear. But that didn’t make it any less threatening. “This is how you handle things?” Wash was quick to throw up an excuse, “What I can’t control what comes out of Simon’s mouth, unless you wanted me to put my boot in it.” “Yeah maybe I did! At least it would have shut his gorram mouth! What was he thinking? Running his gob off like that!?” Mal walked back toward the Tams and Starling, his eyes blazing like twin orbs of fire. He looked to the deck, and the now bleeding doctor. “You want to sabotage me and my crew, have the decency to do it to my face. You,” he looked to Starling for the first time, “better tell me straight and true why I should trust you to keep your mouth shut about our Alliance issues.”
Mal steeled himself for the possibility that he might have to take this girl off to a quiet location and end her life, that Simon in his naïve way might have doomed himself and his sister in one fell swoop. Where was the mastermind that he’d seen during their stay on Ariel? He wondered. Kaylee was coming into the bay in a hurry. Her shrill voice calling his name over and over he looked to Zoë and Jayne. “Zoë,” was all he said. He didn’t have to. She took his position before the woman, while Jayne took the spot just behind her. As they walked the pedestrian filled streets on route to the scrap yard, he looked back just once hoping that this was not turning into a royal shit-storm.
The yard was everything Mal came to expect from the crap hole port like the Evesdown docks; a few jewels amid the cacophony of junk that had laid in the same place for over thirty rust-filled years. It wasn’t until Kaylee began to lay out the deal that he fully understood what she meant by ‘little hitch’ “You can’t trade a human being!” Mal stammered, his eyes buggered near out of his skull as he gestured wildly with his hands. They bantered back and forth, and it wasn’t until fox interjected the last time that Mal gestured for Kaylee to follow him a few feet away and out of earshot.
“I’d love to help him out here, but this is a messy situation all around.” “Oh I see. This is nothing like the time you got paid with a woman!” “Are you referring to Saffron?” his tempter flared up. “Yes Cap’t I am. I don’t see how this is any different then you getting paid with a wife! Or with some whorin’ for that matter!” “I wasn’t… she was all… And that situation with Inara’s friend was just…” He was beaten, his logic had gone to the shitter. He knew it. And at least this time the trade was plain, unmasked, unlike the Saffron incident. He hung his head, ashamed at his own behavior. "You're right" “Aw… there there, captain. I didn’t mean it like that.” “Regardless you’re right; on both counts.” He turned to Fox looking him square in the eye. “We got a deal. But if I find you breachin' contract once we get airborne I will personally make sure it takes a very long time for you to die."
