The Xavier Mansion((IMPORTANT NOTE: All members RPing as X-Men or students are expected to have read the following information. Also,
ORANGE clauses denote information not made available, or known, to the general public, as it compromises the secret identity of the school as a base of operations for the X-Men. WHITE clauses denote information that is not made available or known to the general public, AS WELL AS the younger students of the School. Information regarding the X-Men is kept secret from the student body, except for the older students who can be trusted with the secret, and those who are being considered to enter training as X-Men when they are older. RED clauses are access restrictions))The Xavier Mansion has been in the Professor’s family for ten generations. Originally built by a Dutch seafaring ancestor of Xavier's out of local stone on the edge of Breakstone Lake, the mansion has been electrified, renovated, and modernized numerous times over the many years of its existence. The interiors of the mansion are uniform; comprised of traditional oak furniture and floors. There are various carpeted areas and rugs, as well as framed-pictures, vases, indoor plants and other elegant furnishings.
The mansion is comprised of three wings: the North Wing, the South Wing, and the Main House (central).
Main House
The main entrance to Xavier's mansion is on the first floor of the Main House, as well as a back entrance that the residents use for access to the swimming pool and much of the rest of the estate. The first floor contains a magnificently furnish living room and main dining room, as well as a more informal dining area, used for breakfasts and lunches, and casual sitting rooms, often used by visitors to the school. The first floor also holds the mansion's main computer and kitchen facilities. The most noticeable characteristic of the Main House’s interior is the foyer, which boasts a massive and regal staircase leading up to the second floor.
The second floor is primarily used for entertaining guests and hosting formal parties. There is a small ballroom, as well as a Drawing Room, and numerous guest quarters.
Students are denied access to these rooms without permission.[/u]
In the hallway behind the foyer and staircase, is the entrance to the Institute’s enormous library. The library, itself, extends up into the second floor, and it dominates the majority of the Main House’s size and area. It boasts a great number of books and periodicals, offering a versatile resource for education and research. There are number of copiers, computers, scanners, and printer here as well. There is no librarian to oversee the library due to the small size of the student body, thus the students are held responsible for the books that they take from the library. Some of the faculty maintains the library’s organization, and they are often aided by students. These scheduled duties in the library are based on rotations.
Charles Xavier has private living quarters on this floor as well as the second; his room has two floors. His bedroom is located on the second floor, and his living quarters, as well as his own personal library, study, and office are located on the first floor (where the entrance to his quarters is also located). From the office Professor Xavier conducts school business, and his study is used for his own personal pursuits but also serves as an area from which he holds most of his classes.
The principle terminal for Cerebro is also located (hidden) in his study. South Wing
The South Wing of the Mansion serves as the dormitories and living quarters for the School's student body. Dorm rooms within the South Wing are located on its second floor, and two students are assigned to each room.
Rooms are fully furnished in the South Wing, offering roommates with individual, queen-sized beds, dressers and closets, as well as computer desks and lab-top computers. While roommates must share one bathroom, there is a vanity room separate from the shower and latrine, with two sinks and mirrors and plenty of cabinet and shelf space for both students.
The Common Room is located on the second floor of the South Wing, centralized amidst the various hallways where the dorm rooms are located. The Common Room is extremely large, and serves as the nexus for the social interactions between students. On one end of the room, is a small tiled kitchen and dining area. Here, there is a large economy-sized refrigerator that is kept stocked with food for students. Also, there are two ovens, a stove top, and various cabinets and shelves with accommodating dishware. Two large dining tables are provided, with enough space to comfortably seat eight individuals each. On the opposite side of the Common Room, numerous couches, loveseats, tables and chairs can be found near the massive entertainment center. Unlike the kitchen area, the floor is carpeted here, much like the rest of the South Wing. The entertainment center offers a single, 72” television with complete digital cable, VHS and DVD capability, and television programming/recording. Located around it are an impressive array of speakers, subwoofers, and stereo systems.
In addition to the Common Room, there are various small, quiet study areas located on the second floor.
The first floor of the South Wing holds its laundry facilities, Recreation Room, and Workshops. The Rec-Room sports a small number of weight-training and exercise equipment, as well as billiards and other games, a small arcade, and a lounge area. ‘Shop classes as well as automotive and mechanics classes are held in the Workshops. Students enrolled in these classes are held responsible for their maintenance by their intructor.
Though Professor Xavier pays cleaning services to maintain the interiors of the mansion, Students are expected to be responsible for their surroundings as well.
North Wing
The North Wing of the Mansion serves as the living quarters and offices for the Institute's instructors and faculty (
Most of which are members of the X-Men). Student loitering is not forbidden here, but is officially frowned upon (though most of the faculty doesn’t mind). The rooms here are located on the second floor, just like the South Wing, but are much larger than the student dormitories. Additionally, instructors (
and X-Men) do not share rooms. The suites themselves are set up like apartments: there is a small kitchen and dining area in each room, as well a living room, bedroom and bathroom. Additionally, each suite offers a small, attached office. The entrance to the instructor’s suite is actually located here, with access to their living quarters gained by first entering and then passing through the office, offering them some medium of privacy.
There is no Common Room on the North Wing’s second floor, though there is a small, central study and lounge area.
The first floor of the North Wing holds laundry facilities, and is connected to the Mansion’s large, multi-vehicle garage that extends underground.
Also there are numerous surveillance and security system on the North Wing’s first floor (as there are, to a lesser extent, on the other floors and throughout the estate) to alert the residents to the presence of any visitors or intruders.Attic
The attic of the Xavier mansion is primarily used as a storage area. However, one large room on the level is used by one of the instructors, Ororo Munroe (
Storm), as her living quarters. She prefers this spacious attic room to the suites occupied by her fellow X-Men. "Ororo's Roost" contains her sizable collection of plants, which receive sunlight from the large overhanging skylight. The attic also has a large room for communications equipment, and a stairway leading up to the mansion's cupola.
Basement
For the most part, the first sub-surface level of the Xavier mansion serves the normal function of a basement; it contains the oil heater and water heater and is used for the storage of wine, furniture, and books. The basement is also the location of the mansion's auxiliary generator. The main memory components of the mansion's computer system are also located here as well. The basement also holds a stairwell leading to the Mansion’s first sub-basement level.
Sub-Basement Level One
Much of this level is given over to the School's extensive medical facilities, as well as laboratories. Both are used for medical purposes, as well as schooling (as the Institute’s curriculum is accredited up to a college level education). Since some of the staff are registered doctors and surgeons, as well as experts in various medical fields, the School can offer medical attention rivaling that of a small hospital. Convenient, considering it quite a drive to the inner city hospitals.
Student access to the medical facilities or laboratories is STRICTLY forbidden without supervision of a qualified instructor.[/u]
Also, the first level of the sub-basement has an indoor gymnasium, swimming pool, sauna and steam-bath. There are lock rooms and showers provided (
as well as a terminal for the magnetic rail-cars used to reach the hangers through an underground tunnel). Access to Sub-Basement Level Two is found on this level.
Sub-Basement Level TwoStudent access to this ENTIRE level is STRICTLY forbidden without permission from the heads of faculty, as well as close supervision![/u]
The vast majority of this floor is devoted to the Danger Room and it’s facilities, which are widely unknown by the general public, as well as entering students. Employing advanced Shi'ar technology, including extraordinarily sophisticated holographic projectors, the Danger room can duplicate, or even create, virtually any environment. X-Men and SUPERVISED students can train in the use of their powers here, even against fabricated opponents. These are, actually, either holograms or highly advanced robots, both created by Shi'ar means.
The Danger Room is easily the size of the North and South Wings of the Mansion combined. There are numerous lockers and showers located outside the Danger Room, as well an elevator and stair way leading up to the Danger Room’s Control center. From here, an Operator can direct the activities and programs running in the Danger Room, and also has clear sight of the entire chamber through the large viewing glass. The Control Room rests at the top heights of the Danger Room, overlooking its interior in all its entirety.
When students at the School reach a certain age, they are permitted to join training sessions held in the Danger Room. These are highly organized and bound by very specific rules. They are also accompanied by one of the instructors who will serve as the operator as well as supervise the entire training session. This Sub-Basement also includes alternate living quarters and other facilities for use in emergencies. There is also a secret War Room, serving as a tactical nexus for all X-Men activities. Access to the transport terminal on Sub-Basement Level One can be found here through a secret elevator.
