Moments had passed, and she was slowly coming out of it. She wasn't sure about the car that had come into contact with her, she wasn't sure of anything anymore but she did know that she had to get up and get back quick. That was her first thought, go Home Kara, Go Home. She heard the squeel of a car in the not so far distance. As if someone had spotted the whole mess. The pair in the car were unconcious but in the end pretty well fine. And she well, she layed lifeless on the road, as if death was calling her. But that was on the contrary.
A door opened, and foot steps neared her body. She didn't move, she couldn't at the moment, it would take time. And time it did. It gave them time to check on the car, to check her for a pulse, to even call the police. But it didn't give them enough time to prepare for what they were going to witness from the carnage of metal scraps. Kara twitched. Her hand flinched and within a moment her eyes fluttered open. The two orbs as wide and shocked as anyone would be. She didn't know what happened at first, she didn't really care. With a push she bolted up and the blue pair stared right towards the two who stopped to help. Minor scraps and bruises, she looked rather fine for someone who was plowed into. Inside her mind she was not totally fine though.
She stared at the pair for a moment and opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. Nothing but silent air. Nothing to tell them anything. She glanced towards the area where the cornstalks had been plowed down by the car and then back to the pair. And with an instant she was on the move. She was on her feet as if nothing had happened, and she was gone. Literally, with a speed not many pocessed. She disappeared from their view as quick as they came into hers.
The fear and stun of what had just happened was washing over her more and more. Like anyone who was hit dead on by a locomotive at a good 80 mph she was not all there at the moment and she took little time to calm down. The corn struck her harshly along her legs and arms, sure they would leave slight bruises but she cared little about it. She just wanted away with it all. And she would have been away if not for something in her path. Something she did not expect, did not see and still to her was unknown. For just as quickly as she had gotten up, she was knocked down yet again. Like slamming into a brick wall, she dropped back onto her back against the ground. Wind knocking quite good out of her. This was just her lucky day wasn't it.

“Leave it. I’ll get it towed… I even have the number on speed dial,” she confessed. They rode in dejected silence for a while, occasionally biting at conversation like hungry fish. “Yeah I miss her too, well all except maybe her meatloaf.” Lois made a face of mocked disgust followed up by a grin. It was nice relating with Richard on this level. It was something that in the later half of their relationship they’d forgotten to do; remember that they started out as friends. Despite the constant moving Lois considered Richard to be a childhood friend. The summers she would spend in metropolis after her mother’s death were some of the lighter memories she’d had as a girl, and playing with the boys next door was good medicine for her and her sister Lucy.
“I know this isn’t the best timing, but I appreciate that you out a good word in for Chloe at the “Daily Planet”. She’s put a lot of time and energy into “The Torch” and I hate to see her talents for journalism wasted on a rag after graduation.”
Just then Richard hit the brakes with an exclamation; hers was just as colorful. As he walked toward the prone blonde, Lois began to dial 911 on her phone. “Is she alive? What about the driver?”

“Lame, lame, lame, lame….LAME!” the blonde speedster was becoming inpacient he’d been there a good at least fifteen to twenty minutes and no one had come home, there was hardly any sign of life at the Kent farm. With some more muttering he picked up his pack and headed to the barn, he was in, in a matter of seconds he placed all of his stuff down in the loft, well if they were gone couldn’t stop him from staying here at least. As he took the stairs down at a normal human pace he paused as a shadow moved out the form of a dog. A brow arched and he chuckled. “So…they got him a friend huh. Musta been desperate since I left.”
He moved finding a ball and wiggled it in front of the dog. “Want the ball, yeah …go get it.” He threw the ball and just seconds after it had left his fingertips he tore off catching the ball once again before the dog was even close. A few more times he did this before the dog got cranky with him catching the ball while it was still in his hand. Pulling Wally’s feet moved trying to use his speed but he stayed in the same spot, and when the dog pulled back he lost balance with the strength and went flying over the canine into one of the wooden posts and slid down. “Ooooh…” pushing himself up he looked over to the dog “Clark? Uhh hang on buddy…I’ll go an try to find something to change you back or something. Even for me this is past my weird levels.”
And then he thought about it, Mrs. Kent owned the Talon back in town he could go there, tell her, her son was now a dog. Why did it always seem the weird always happened in Kansas, after all he was formerly from Kansas and well…his family was pretty weird. In a blur that was a known color in Key Stone as well as Metropolis, his was much similar after all the Flash was his uncle. Part of the reason he was back in Kansas, his uncle had caught him. There was a scene up a head one that looked bad, so he ducked into the corn fields and slowed. There was a girl in the road and a nice Ford Mustang GT pulling up to a stop, of course he was concerned about the girl…but the prospect of finding something a little more interesting. He moved to get a better view of the car, inside was the girl he’d seen before.
The driver exited, not much older than himself one of those suit and tie types, money types he could pick them out, since he was ten. In grade school even before his speed he’d steal the already stolen lunch money from the bullies, but he was no Robin Hood he never gave it back. It just progressed as he got older, became more of a Klepto, he’d even stolen from the infamous Lex Luthor. Of course he was supposed to be here to stop doing that…better Smallville than Key Stone where family would have an eye on him. They were both distracted by the girl who was standing that even if they had strained to try and notice him they wouldn’t have. He’d stolen the wallet right out of the suit’s pocket , and close enough to the girl to cop a feel, among something else. Part of the reason Wally was Wally, and he was the self proclaimed quickest bra-undoer the world would ever know, even one handed. Even a speed fantasy about taking her with him, and then he was off to ransack the car. He was faster than it anyway for the get away. Moving got his hands on anything that looked of value. MP3 player, cell phone, purse, laptop it was as he was getting out that he made a mistake the horn honked. But he caught the brief moment of the girl running away quicker than a normal person could even try for, but in his error he needed a hasty getaway and took off the opposite direction. The cornfields along the road swayed as if a strong wind had just blown through. No one would have seen him anyway, he had even hardly slown down in the car, if for the half second after hitting the horn.

Lois sat in the passenger seat, half in, half out of the mustang as she spoke to the dispatcher. It didn’t take long for her to relate all of the information to the woman on the other end and for Lois to turn off the phone and toss it onto the driver’s sear for the moment. “They’re sending over an ambulance and a squad car… Rich? Where did she go?” Lois gripped the lip of the roof as she stood again. She shared a quizzical look with her ex-boyfriend and then felt something give at the back of her shirt.
“What the fuck?” Lois muttered turning about wondering if her clothes had been caught on something. Somehow her brassiere had come undone. Her arms snaked up behind her back to fix the problem when for no reason whatsoever the horn on the car blared out. Lois reacted as anyone would, turning her head toward the noise and promptly banged it against the roof. “Ow… damn it, what the hell is going on here?!” she complained rubbing the mark on her forehead as she ring of pain still echoed in the foreground.

At least for now Wally had made a clean get away, and with plenty of distance between himself and the site he made a quick U-Turn, skidding some as he did. His feet now carrying him the direction of the Kent Farm once more. With items securely under his arms he rushed through the corn stalks, even in the dark he was zipping through as if it was daylight. A smirk growing on his lips, he had to admit, he was pretty good, even with Lois being at the car so close. He would have loved to seen her face when the bra finally shifted and he chuckled slightly.
Finally he’d arrived once more at the barn and took off to the loft. Eyes searched for a moment before finding an old trunk that he put the items in of course not before looking at them first. The computer was opened up and he typed in a few things, looking through files, no one with money came to Smallville just because, and Wally was semi-curious as to why mister big shot was here, they already had Lex, maybe that was the connection. But the girl…of course, it was the girl, she didn’t seem much of a Kansas type.
Lying back on the large open barn window ledge he folded his arms under his head, as the dog came up the stairs, sat and looked at him before barking. Eyes rolled as he sat up “Listen, Clark…I mean…you don’t know what its like livin on your own in a big city. I gotta make it by someway, I swear I’m tryin to stop…it was just too easy. And then that girl running off, made me wonder if there was someone else out there like me. Like when we met remember? Or do you have doggie biscuits on the brain?” Krypto stood and barked at him again and Wally put his hands up “Can’t blame me for my quick wit, right buddy?” he chuckled before kicking his legs around as he sat on the wooden opening, elbows propped up against his keens, chin in his hands.

Everything was happening so quickly. Suddenly he was out, and she was off. She had looked like a deer in headlights before just BLAM disappearing. Something weird was going on in smallville. However, when he turned, to see Lois' face his arms shrugged. "She's... gone. Lois what the hell is going on here?" He asked silently before turning to the car in the cornfield. "Somehow there are people down there... but what did they hit? There is no way that girl did THAT much damage."
"What the fuck?” Her tone was questioning everything she saw, just as he was. Then she hit her head against the car. "Ow… damn it, what the hell is going on here?!” Turning towards his ex... he rose a brow. "Yeah I just said that." his body slowly began to move towards her before he put his hand on her head and smiled softly. "Are you alright Lo? You hit your head quite hard." Turning quickly his head darted inside. Suddenly nothing only the beep of his horn. "Ok... this place is strange Lo... lets get you where you were going, the squad and the ambulance are on their way..." Opening the door for her again he smiled and closed it for her as well, before running around the car and settling down in the drivers seat.
Turning, he noticed his blazer was gone and so was his corporate cell phone. "Oh well, least they didn't get my money fold... that's all that's important now anyway." He was smart, he kept his main creditcard and his money on him at all times... he had been robbed when he was younger too many times to even count. He wasn't stupid.
"Want anything to eat... so maybe we can catch up and you can tell me all about this strangeass place..." He smiled once more before turning the engine and driving off. This place called Smallville was very very strange.

“What I want is to get out of this uniform, cancel my credit cards, and get into a hot shower. Food, yes, but shower first. I smell like a coffee bean.” She complained. The ride to the Kent farm didn’t take long, the tires of the Mustang crunched against the lose gravel driveway as they pulled to a halt before the large farmhouse. Lois exited the car, looking back to Richard as she fished keys out of her pocket. “Seriously, I won’t be too long. Help yourself to whatever from the fridge I’ll be right down.”
She bounded up the stairs three at a time, stripping off her work uniform as soon as her bedroom door was open. She didn’t bother to toss the clothes into the hamper just here, there, wherever… Wrapping a towel about her torso, Lois entered the bathroom and set the temperature. Steam began to fill the room and cloud up the mirror that she now looked into. “Ok Lo, your ex is downstairs… probably wants to re-kindle. And yes, he looks absolutely tragic and devastatingly handsome but you have to keep a clear head solider. So you go, have dinner, and then come home. No kiss goodnight. No hugs. No sex… got it?” She nodded to her reflection and then stepped into the claw-foot tub.
The hot water washed away the eight hour shift and the overpowering aroma of coffee leaving her feeling refreshed and in a lighter spirit. Once dressed, Lois descended the stairs while combing though her wavy hair with a wide toothed brush. “Richard?” She called out entering the country kitchen on bare feet. “Hey…” she smiled gesturing toward the door, “I’m going to go out and check in the car one more time before I call the cops, maybe my purse slipped under the seat or something.”
Stepping out onto the porch Lois glanced up toward the barn, her eyes catching some shadowed movement at the open loft. “Hey Clark! Clark?” she called out toward who she assumed was up there. It was almost ironic, that she was happy to see ‘Smallville’ because he offered something she didn’t have; a distraction/third wheel that could easily take the pressure off her already tense situation. “Come on down here there’s someone I want you to meet!”

With a sigh he pushed up to his feet scratching the dog behind the ear, who looked a bit worried for a moment. “You know, Clark, ya make a good dog…” he grinned wide before moving again the glow of headlights shone on the Kent’s house and he leaned to take a look out, expecting that maybe it was the Kent’s back, what he didn’t expect to see what he saw. The mustang he’d robbed earlier was pulling into the dirt drive way and stopped. Wally gulped for a moment, they couldn’t have had any idea that he’d done it or where he was, so he watched.
There seemed to be some interaction between the pair and she fumbled around for keys and entered the house. Well both did actually and he moved back away from the barn hay loft window questions racing into his mind. Who were they and where were the Kent’s did they move, but he remembered seeing the Kent’s name still on their mail box, with fresh bills and junk mail. They had to still be living there didn’t they, his form paced quickly back and fort to someone else it might have looked like a blur to one side and then him, then a blur to the other side. With a sigh he slowed up, having gotten the idea that he should investigate.
Eyes looked to Krypto who was sitting their wagging his tail as if he knew something Wally didn’t. And just before he started heading down he hear a girls voice calling out for Clark. So they had to be living there still, but did she know, one more look at the dog Wally was down the stairs just as Lois finished saying her last line. The blonde speedster was still shadowed as he exited the barn and at a normal pace moved forwards “Are you going to be disappointed when you find out I’m not Clark?” His form came into the fall off lighting from the house lighting his face and spiked mess of blonde hair, and resisted the urge to run circles around her to check her out again. But that didn’t stop him from being a motor mouth. “So Kent’s still live here huh. Your not a Kent though…I don’t remember Clark saying anything about a sister. I would have stayed longer the first time if he did. Who are you, a cousin maybe, Girlfriend even…no your with the suit, duh.”

“Disappointed? No. Surprised? Totally.”
Lois let him ramble on, her analytical mind picking apart his persona in the blink of an eye. He was obviously cocky, probably because of his looks, and she could tell straight away that he was what he rather used to classify as a ‘walking hard-on’. She’d seen a million of them on base trying their damnedest to get though the impenetrable fortress that was her father’s regime. But what each of these fly-boys failed to realize was that Lois Lane’s enigmatic wall was a lot harder to break than her father’s.
An eyebrow quirked, “Do you see me milking a cow?” She rolled her eyes and smiled, placing a hand on her hip. “No, I’m not a Kent… nor a relative, just a city girl held hostage in the purgatory, thankfully it’s temporary. Girlfriend? To Clark?!” at this she began to laugh before rolling her eyes again at his presumption. She wiped a faux tear from her eye before continuing with her cynically toned explanation. “Correction I was with the suit… not that, that is any of your business and might I ask who you are?
Lois heard the familiar jingle of a dog collar as he came out of the barn, jogging toward her. Immediately she sneezed, and then waggled her finger at the mutt. “Sit. Stay. Play dead.” the nonplused dog jumped up, planting his paws on her chest and licking her face. “Aww come on gimmie a break Krypto, I just got in from work! Get down!”
She sneezed again. “He’s not gonna let up till I feed him.” She said as she grabbed hold of his collar and began to walk back toward the house, “I hate to cut this little chit-chat short.” She jibed with a biting tongue. The screen door slammed as she re-entered the kitchen and set to work pouring dry dog food and filling his water bowl. “Minor detour,” she offered to Richard, in explanation to the dog and the conversation out in the driveway. #nosmileys

It seemed that life was good at changing in Smallville, especially his. If it wasn’t new powers, or new faces, it was new questions. But his life seemed to be a lot of questions. One on top of the other. Some the young man had answers too, others he did not. Most of them were about himself, the destiny stones, the cave and his real father Jor-El. Each day he seemed to be learning more and more, and with what his parents had reveled to them that they knew. Slowly some of the markings were coming into words, almost like an ancient dialect. That somewhere he’d heard before. Perhaps before coming to earth.
Hand came up against the nape of his neck with a soft rub, before scratching the dark hair. He’d been staring at these walls for ages it seemed like and he wasn’t getting any further than he already had. By now it was dark. His chores had been done before he went to the Cave. None of this had been shared with Lois yet. Clark was still trying to gauge how he felt about her. Around her even. It was like in away she was judging him for living in Smallville. For being a farm-boy. Not some fast talking city type like she was. Still there was something about her. He was just glad that Chloe was still around. And his secret was safest with her. Just like his parents.
Rising to his feet Clark headed out through the sweeping cornfields that covered the flat landscape of Kansas. At least Lois was another friend here, and it was funny to watch her around Krypto. Despite being allergic to him at times, she loved the dog. For Clark it was like having another family in a way. Eyes turned to the watch on his wrist with the press of a button it illuminated the time. He gave a heavy sigh, not believing it was that late already, well there was one quick fix. Natural, or rather Supernatural powers. What was it about the wind rushing through his hair was so comforting. Like when flight happened. He wished that had been a power more fully developed. To soar in the skies, to feel like nothing could bring him down.
Sudden impact jogged him back to normal thought. As form moved to correct itself after being slammed into. It was like when you went to the bumper cars at the State Fair. Straightening himself he turned in the darkness, wondering what he hit. Rather, what hit him. There was a sound of a heart beat, it was a rushed pace before starting to slow. Breathing. Blue eyes scanned the cornfield before looking down, and that’s when he saw her. A blonde haired girly, lying flat on her back. Clothing looked tattered and torn already, a run away maybe? But he’d been using his powers, and she’d knocked him off balance. “Are you ok?”
Dark brow arched as he moved slowly, not trying to frighten the girl. The Kansas boy,was used to strange things happening in the small town. Being part of them at times. Hand extended out towards her, while he crouched. “Here, let me help you up.”
There was a look of worry, and concern in his eyes. It was part of who he was. How he was raised. The manners, and upbringing that Martha and Jonathan instilled in their adopted son. “I’m Clark.”
A smile pulled on his lips as fingers clasped around the girls hand, helping her get steady on her feet as he stood himself. Still he had his questions. Always more questions. This time it wasn’t about him. It was about her.

She took in a deep breath. She felt like she had just been hit by a frait train moving at a fast pace. But this was far from a train. After a soft groan she shook her head and opened her eyes. How did she end up on the flat of her back? This didn't make sense to her. There must have been something really hard that she knocked into. Maybe another car? What her luck.
Shofting her weight, she leaned up on elbows before hearing a voice. That sent a shock through her. A man? How the heck did a man make her knock down. From everything she was experiencing lately, the sudden powers she was coming into how did some boy make her fall back? In reality he should have went flying but no, he was still standing.
She saw the hand offered and his voice spoke. Slowly her own lifted to take hold of his and she stood to her feet with his help. Which was not much of an effort on both parts. " Thanks" was her slow response before she closed her eyes tighted and opened them again. Perhaps this was the thing to knock some sense into her since she ran away from the car perviously. Looking about for a moment she smiled slowly and responded to his name. " Nice to meet you. I'm Linda." Linda, a earth name that suited her well.
"That was some hard hit.." she openly laughed a gently before turning her eyes to him. When she saw his face her laughter stopped and she stared. She didn't look at him before...why didn't she look at him before. His face, his features, those eyes..she knew those eyes. A shocked look had washed over her slowly..as if she saw gold at the end of some rainbow. Those eyes...they were like Lara's...that face...like Jor-El. She only met them once or twice in her lifetime before the planet was destroyed, but she could never forget the loving faces of her Aunt and Uncle. Who was this? Some Earth clone..
"Jor-El?"...her words were so hushed that they were hardly noticeable. Well, not to normal ears anyways. "Uh..I mean..I'm sorry for bumping into you. I was a bit shaken up." she pushed everything aside and suddenly let out a slightly fake laugh. She wished it was him, hoped....she would give anything to see any of her old family again. Anything that would remind her of the place she had to forget while on this planet. Her home.

Moving around the home of someone he didn't know, made him feel uncomfortable... while at the same time oddly at ease. The home was much more... homely than his, and he could feel the love that was in this house wrap around him like a warm blanket.
It was a feeling he wasn't used to, and made him feel even more of an outcast of his own family, knowing that his brother had once felt that from his parents. These were feelings all children should have, love-cherish-laughter... but he had had none of that when he was younger. He was just the follower, the second born... not who his parents wanted. Now, with Jerry gone... it made his eyes tear at the thought that they STILL didn't have any love for him.
Shaking his head slightly he turned to see Lois walking through the kitchen in bare feet, combing her hair... he missed that picture. The smile on his face was small, but she could probably see it from there, she always could see his smiles. "Hey, why don't you let me do that? I'll get it done quickly and you won't have to get dirty... since you just showered I mean." Great Rich, sound like a sexist asshole... score one for the Dickheads.
The sudden sound of talking, made his brow raise as he began to walk towards the door. "Correction I was with the suit… not that, that is any of your business and might I ask who you are?" He stopped, she made that was very apparent. Maybe, he should stick to the plan and not look for anything... in a relationship?
"Hey Lo.. you ok out there?" He questioned as he walked into the kitchen, only to get a sudden bark of a dog, then taken down as quickly. "Holy crap..." he commented before petting the dog behind the ears. "Man, this brings me back..." he commented as he continued to scratch the mutt, remembering his own dog-well Jerry's dog.
A purebred albino boxer... a beautiful dog named Symphony. However, she died just before Jerry. A loss to the entire family, with another one coming. She was sweet and a showdog, but Jerry and Richard never put her in shows, they just had fun having her. Sadly, her death was untimely and hard on everyone-but mostly Richard. Outside of Jerry, Symphony was the only one that ever acted like she cared. Man, I miss that dog...
Standing slowly, his eyes ran to Wally, a brow arching. "So... hey, I'm Richard... who are you?" he offered his hand to the boy before him, but figured it either wouldn't be taken or there'd be a pissing contest. He was used to that... specially with guys like this.

"Think you could even figure out which end to milk?" Eyes studied the girl so she wasn't a Kent, and her answer, sort of why she was there. "Hostage huh, so why not leave with the guy?" Wally shifted some as he moved forwards watching Lois, he could tell she was analizing him trying to figure him out in her big city way. He knew how it was in big citys."Oh, well... gee... thanks for clearing that one up for me." He moved as there was the sound of the dog collar and she called the dog Krypto, his brow arched but he didn't say anything.
Stepping forwards to follow, shifting the back pack strap over his shoulder he watched Lois walking away with her hand holding the collar of the dog. "The names Wally West, and you are? Since were having this bonding bussom-buddy moment." Wally kept following even as she entered the house and he shifted his weight dropping his backpack down on the ground next to one of the kitchen counters. "Yeah. You look real pained at ending our chat short."
Eyes scanned over to Richard and the dog before he shifted his weight. When the guy stood up and introduced himself, hand extended and all, Wally smirked. "Wally." He shook hands a moment before releasing and leaning back against the counter with his hands on either side propping himself up. "How come you've got a key to the Kent's place?" Brow raised as he looked back over to Lois.

She had the crowd cheering. They were chanting, they were joining hands. “That’s right people of Smallville! Take your hands together and fight for the freedom of these creatures!” Her eyes watched the men shake their heads as the caged animals were leaving the shipping docks. “Let them go!” another began to shout, the group beginning to rally against the shippers. Her eyes widened slightly before she stood before the crowd. “EVERYONE PLEASE CALM DOWN!” then she began to ramble on about the rights of americans being allowed to rally in a peaceful way.
After a few hours, the man agreed not to perform any deadly tests with chemicals on the animals within his facility or any others in his care. A two day rally, brought down within two hours and a contract. For some reason, Leslie felt oddly accomplished. A legal document saving the lives of a few animals-how strange.
Within minutes, the crowds dispersed and she was left standing there alone, contemplating if she made any real improvement on what she did. Though in midthought, she was cut off by the ringing of her cell phone. Eyeing the unfamiliar number, her brow rose before the receiver was at her ear. “Hello?”
”Is this Miss Willis, Leslie Willis?” the voice on the other end creeped her out, raising small bumps on her arms and neck. ”By the silence, I presume I am correct, Ms. Willis… and I would appreciate it if you keep this conversation short…. I have news about something strange going on, in the town you are in right now.”
Her brow rose. “Smallville?”
”Yes… damnit. Anyway, there are a few there… with special abilities, Ms. Willis. And I don’t mean ESP or some rottonass crop circle. I mean strong people… girls getting hit with cars only to run away unscathed. Boys getting shot at, and not having a scratch on them. Something strange is going on there, Ms. Willis and I think you should be the one to bring the media masses to Smallville.”
The voice went silent as she thought, her body had been pacing now listening to everything. Man how can one small city be so strange. “Alright… so I bring the masses in… then what? Find some freaky kids and get them sent to some freak factory so you guys can mangle them?”
The breathing became harder, frustrated on the other end. ”You can become queen of the media by breaking this story, trust me.” With that the phone hung up and she sat there stunned.
“Queen of the media?” a brow rose as a smirk glided alone her lips. “Yeah… queen of the media.”
“Chivalry noted, but I’m alright Richard… you just sit tight I’ll be back in a jiff.”
It was sweet of him to offer, and a part of her wanted to fall back into old habits. The things she never revealed to anyone other than Richard; Those secrets about Lois Lane that only he knew. Like how she enjoyed that he would hold doors for her, or guide her though a room with his hand at the small of her back and make her feel as though she were the envy of everyone else. She even liked it when he’d tickle the back of her knees in the bedroom… but that was before she knew that he was serious about a commitment.
Commitment was something she had issues with. It stemmed from her childhood. The constant moving from state to state, country to country and never finding the solidarity of a true home was what scared her. Richard was willing to offer her all of that. She saw it in his face the day she left. But the idea that she had to settle down and think about a serious relationship just wasn’t in her cards; she knew that her free-spirit, that spark that initially grabbed his interest would fade if she was forced into a cage. And Lois didn’t want to come to resent him for holding her back from all the things she still wanted to do on her own.
It was the death of her cousin Chloe that had really awoken her from the monotony she’d allowed her life to become; Knowing that her cousin was always out there seeking the truth, fighting the good fight, and never stopping when the choices were too hard to face. She faced a truth that day she left, and it was that her life would be more than a housewife in a home that was too big for her shoes. “Glad that dog found someone to annoy besides me… you know how badly my allergies act up with canines.”
Her head turned to the blonde haired boy as the screen door slammed behind him. “Wally West, thrilled.” Her tone was dry. She brushed her hands off on her jeans and extended one toward Wally, “Lois Lane, temporary houseguest of the Kent’s, while my father is out doing his commander-in-chief dealy, and cousin to Chloe Sullivan.”
She sized up the two men, wondering if this was going to become awkward, when Martha Kent walked though the front door and broke the tension. “Lois… I was worried when I saw a different car in the driveway.” She turned to Richard, “Thank you for giving Lois a ride back home,” she smiled to Richard then looked back to Lois, “did you breakdown again?” Lois nodded, tucking her hands into her back pockets. “Yeah Rich heard I was in town and he stopped by the Talon to see if I was working. Good timing on his part. We go way back from when I used to live in Metropolis.”
Martha entered the kitchen and set her purse down on the table, “You really should let Jonathon take a look at it tomorrow morning.” Startled she broke off recognizing the newcomer. “Well this is a surprise! It’s good to see you Wally, does Clark know you’re in town?”
Lois took the cue, hooking her arm into Richard’s elbow. “I’ll let you two catch up, show Richard the sights… maybe get a bit to eat in town.” She slipped on some sandals, half dragging him toward the door as she tried to make a hasty exit. “Oh good! Why don’t you take Wally with you, I’m sure he’d like to stretch his legs a little.”
She meant well, Lois could tell, but this small town hospitality wasn’t something she was exactly used to. Her face broke into a strained smile. “Sure,” she said unconvincingly.
